Beauty tips for the writer
I have stumbled upon a sure-fire way for writers to make themselves feel beautiful.(This probably only works for women writers, but hey, the guys don’t have to worry about being beautiful anyway.)
Step one: have revisions due on a certain date.
Step two: ascertain that you will not make this date unless you give up several things in your life like showering or grooming.
Step three: repeat step two for several days.
Step four: by the time you finish your revisions you will resemble the troll-like figure on the front cover of Brandon Mull’s first Fablehaven book.
Step five: now that your revisions are done, shower, dress in something besides the lifeless sweats you’ve been wearing, and do your hair and makeup. You will be astounded by how good you look. In fact, you will be downright stunning in comparison to how you’ve looked for the last few days.
It works every time.

It’s brilliant, Janette! I always knew you were a genius.
Hey, I’ve done that–more times than I’d like to admit. At the end, my entire family drenches me with compliments about how great I look . . . they act all shocked, because of the previous hag effect.
*grin*
Now I know the secret . . .
Oh so that’s how you get rid of the hag look. I’ve been doing it all wrong and just continuing the dress like a hag trend even after revisions are done. 🙂
We could all volunteer to be models for Brandon Mull’s next book.
I tried that once. My kids didn’t recognize me. Since then I’ve taken to de-trolling in stages.
And if you don’t complete step five you’ll eventualy look like the many-headed dragon on the fourth book.
Can’t wait to try it! I loved Fablehaven, btw.
That’s why I go on camping trips with my family. After the return shower, I feel positively glamorous.
Congrats on finishing your revisions!
Ah, that’s my problem trying to break into this biz. I shower too often!
So you’re supposed to look better after revisions? Hmmm . . . I should try that.
Good advice for a writer, as a writer I read one by one the steps, and are very functional, thank you very much for such excellent advice, I’ll warn my fellow writers who read this blog, thanks for sharing with me.
Pretty insightful post. Never thought that it was this simple after all. I had spent a good deal of my time looking for someone to explain this subject clearly and you’re the only one that ever did that. Kudos to you! Keep it up
