It’s really a book for writers
I need to blog on my trip to Utah, and I will, really. But when I got home from my trip yesterday, my youngest daughter handed me a stack of picture books she’d checked out of the library. I read this one and cried at the ending. And the next time I read it, I still cried at the ending.
So I immediately ordered two copies of it. One for me and one for a friend who also needs this book.
I don’t usually–well, ever actually–plug books on my blog because frankly I have way too many writer friends and I’m afraid that if I started plugging books, I’d never be able to stop.
But if you’re a writer, you need to read Callie Cat, Ice Skater by Eileen Spinelli. You’ll understand why when you get to the ending.

Let me be the first to say I loved having you in Utah and I hated I didn’t get enough time to hang out with you. I’m always so swamped with things to do during this conference.
I can’t wait to see you in June. I’m ordering this book. It sounds to me like it’s one I could use too.
Also an FYI, my daughter loves you. The fact that I know you and Crystal makes me officially cool in my daughter’s eyes. I’ll take cool however I can get it.

Yes, I was at the conference. I saw you across the room several times but never could seem to be in the same place at the same time. Next year, yes. For sure I’ll come and have you sign your books.
BTW, my daughter who attended with me has put Ex-Boyfriend on her spring reading list. I told her she had to because you were as funny as Louise Rennison, but totally clean and she wouldn’t be embarrassed to read you.
I’ll have to read it! Is Eileen Speneli the wife of Jerry Speneli? I heard that his wife wrote books too, but had never seen any of them.
Well, the cover is cute, and if you cried at the end then I simply must get it.
I just looked up the book on Amazon, and noticed that she is also the author of a book called “Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch.” My son’s first grade teacher read it to the class on a day I was volunteering. It is a wonderful book about the influence that one kind act can have on an individual and a community. It’s well-written and heart-warming.
I’ll have to make another trip to the library to pick up the Callie book–just as soon as Janette returns it…:)
Yes, I noticed in the About-the-author that her husband’s name is Jerry–just one more reason I’m sure this book is really about being a writer. (But that would be a way boring picture book.)
I’ll join this little lovefest and tell you that both my oldest daughter and I find you cool too. (You said it yourself, the #1 reason you became an author is because librarians think you’re cool!)
I was looking forward to reading the book this morning until I discovered that none of my 6 libraries even own the darn thing! 🙁 I’ll see see what I can do to rectify that!
Maybe I’ll hit my kid’s media centers and see if my kids can check the book out for me.

As you know, my daughter has idolized you for years — as have I. What was really cool was dragging you over to my table at the Whitneys and having all these grown women writers keep saying “YOU know JANETTE RALLISON?!” (The “you” was not only capitalized, it was italicized and bold faced, but I can’t get Blogger to do any of those things for me.)

Thanks for the idea. It was great to see you at the conf. I’m excited to read your book. I bought a stack at the conf and I have to use them as rewards as my accomplish my writing goals–which include submitting several things through contacts I made at the conf.
