My Double Life ARC give-away

I feel bad for making anybody who is just dying to read my next book (I know that’s all of you, right?) wait any longer for the promised ARCs, so I’m doing the giveaway now–but if you didn’t read about the Faerie Festival then you have to read that blog too, as I’m once again trying to convince conference people that I have fans. So if you can go to the festival, please do. And when you see me, yell out, “There’s Janette Rallison, who is not my neighbor! I’m just a random rabid fan, of which there are many in any given crowd!”

Okay, that said, I thought I’d do a blog about the cover for My Double Life.

My idea for the cover was to show the back of a singer holding a mike, but with her fingers crossed. Thus conveying that she is lying. I admit it was sort of vague, but the Bow-Tied One likes to see my cover ideas so he can ignore them. I sent him my daughter modeling for this:

And this was one of the covers they sent me. I thought it was nice.

But they decided to hire a model and insert her into the cover. I do like the fact that they hired a model for the cover since that means I will not see this same picture pop up in a million adds like the picture for My Fair Godmother has. And she’s very pretty. However, does anybody think this model looks at all Latina? Yeah, I didn’t think so either. Apparently the photo shoot department doesn’t actually read the book.

I’ll be giving away two ARCs. If you want a chance to win just leave a comment telling me which of my previous books was your favorite. Followers get double chances. Good luck!

Hi Janette! I love MY FAIR GODMOTHER, but enjoy all your books!

By the way, are you heading north for the holidays this year (as in WA)? If so, you have many fans up here who would love to see you.

Favorite: Masquerade. I don’t know if that counts since it was when you went under another name. But still.

    November 8, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Elise stole my favorite – it is also Masquerade for me. I think it is because it is the first book by you that I read, and my sister and I read it (each) at least twice a year for many years. I only discovered you as Janette Rallison a couple of years ago, and have enjoyed every book you have written.

Does all of that (truthful and sincere) flattery get me an extra entry? I know it won’t – but it doesn’t hurt to ask!

I’m obsessed with Its A Mall World After All. I’ve read it like 12 times, and even made my friends read it out loud with me. We laugh till we cry. 🙂

Sometimes when I look at covers I can’t stop thinking “Are they serious?!”. I wish some designer or whoever creates them would put more effort into them.

I’m a folloger. My favorite book of yours is Just One Wish. 😀

Maybe she looks Latina in a Christina Aguilera way? Hmm… probably not.

I’m going to say that I loved My Fair Godmother best, but Just One Wish is a very close second.

Thanks for your wonderful books, give-aways, and blog! You brighten all our worlds!

My Fair Godmother is my favorite so far. (Although the one I just read that’s not published yet comes close. And Time Riders rocks too. And . . .)

Well, if I can only pick one… Um, I love them all! After reading “How To Take the Ex out of Ex-boyfriend,” I promptly read every book of yours, and loved every single one. So how to pick? If we count your Sierra St. James books (which some people are) I think I like “Trial of the Heart” best, but if not, then probably “Just One Wish” or “My Fair Godmother.”

And no, not so much Latina-looking.

I’d have to say MY FAIR GODMOTHER is my favorite of what I’ve read so far. And no, she doesn’t look very latina at all… that seems to happen a lot doesn’t it? The cover models/art don’t match the descriptions in the book at all, or not very well. Huh. Oh well, it’s a cool cover regardless. 🙂

  14. Jenn Wilks
    November 9, 2009 at 8:26 am

My fave so far was Fame Glory, and Other Things on My To-Do List, too.

As far as the latina thing goes, when you first said it, I was thinking, “No, she looks kinda latina to me.” And then I scrolled down and saw the blonde. ;o)

I’d love to win a copy of the book anyway, even if they did get the cover wrong. 😛

I’ve read all your YA books and my favorite is My Fair Godmother. I liked it because, being longer than most of your other books, you were able to develop the character and plot lines more fully. Plus I like time travel stories.

I’m doing an Author Shout Out to you on my blog this week Thursday. Check it out at http://www.ellestraussbooks.blogspot.com/

I can’t just pick one so how about a three way tie?
Deep Blue Eyes – The first book I read of your so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
How To Take The Ex & Just One Wish. And since others were putting their Sierra books down as well my favorite is What The Doctor Ordered.

  18. Becky

I haven’t ready any of your Janette Rallison authored books, but I’ve read all of your Sierra St. James books, and I’ve loved them! I really need to get on the ball and catch up on reading your Rallison books.

I’d have to say my favorite is a toss up between Masquerade and What the Doctor Ordered.

All’s Fair in Love, War, and High School will always be in my top 5! That book is so hilarious, I would read it over and over again while I was in high school and laugh my head off. That being said, What the Doctor Ordered and My Fair Godmother are very close on its heels. What am I saying? They’re all hysterical, it’s impossible to choose just one and label it my “favorite.” Can’t wait for the new book!!!

I have two favorites. ‘My Fair Godmother’ and “All’s Fair in Love, War, and High School”. I like the last one because Logan and Sam remind me very much of two of my friends Sam and Hayley. And for the first, I just love anything to do with Fairy Tales.

I think my favorite book is the one I read first – It’s a Mall World After All. Loved the main character and how tall she was. Loved the lead guy and their chemistry. Just One Wish is probably a close second though.

My all time favorite book is My Fair Godmother! Why? In a word, Tristan. After reading it to my daughters we now have a new benchmark for men. They say,…”well, he’s nice enough, but he’s certainly no Tristan”. With a princess whose hair smells like cough syrup, no indoor plumbing and death by shampoo, how can it not be everyone’s fave!!! I can’t wait for My Double Life 🙂

I think I was in 7th or 8th grade (I’m now 25 yrs. old) when I first read DEEP BLUE EYES AND OTHER LIES. I loved it! So for teenage sentimental reasons that is my favorite of your books. (Of course MY FAIR GODMOTHER is a favorite as well. So fun!)

I really liked My Fair Godmother. Getting stuck in the middle ages was great fun. One of my other all time favorites is “all’s fair in love, war, and high school”. I felt the heroine really brave for stepping up to run for elections to give herself a better shot at college. I like my girls to see other girls in situations they can use to guide them through school issues they certainly don’t want the advice to come from MOM.

    Hi Janette!

This contest is hard because I hate picking favorites–especially amongst your books.

I guess I’ll go with “Just One Wish” because there’s VERY few books that make me laugh AND cry in one sitting. I was so addicted, I HAD to finish–but we had plans to meet people at Disneyland–so I actually brought it with me in the car and finished it on the drive there (which totally got me carsick but was SO worth it.)

I don’t think you need anything else to enter, but let me know if I missed anything. 🙂

Picking a favorite Janette Rallison book is like picking a favorite tooth: I really like them all, I really need them all, and I’m glad there are 32 of them. Wait a minute. I’m seeing some disparity in my analogy here. I think you need to write more books, Janette.

So–I’m thrilled you have a new one coming out.

The Janette Rallison (or Sierra St. James) book I’ve been thinking about this week is Time Riders, so I’m going with that as my favorite. (This week.)

I’m completely random, and sufficiently rabid, and I even follow you via RSS (since I’m not with Google). Does that get me any extra entries?

Either way, I’m sure my fingers will cramp up from being perpetually crossed—

To be honest, I love them all. However, that being said, All’s Fair In Love, War, and High School does hold a special place in my heart (Haha, that sounds so corny!). It’s definitely my favorite teen fiction book, and in general one of my favorite books EVER. Samantha’s narrative is hilarious. She has such a great, witty sense of humor, and it’s so easy to relate to her. She has problems that everyone can connect with (i.e., liking a boy that maybe you don’t want to (trying to convince yourself that you don’t!), or being misinformed and then making a mistake that you wish you could take back). The storyline in general is great. All the characters are fun and easy to picture; everyone has those friends like Logan or Chelsea, etc. Plus, the whole moral of the story (to sum it up, don’t be mean!) is such a good one. I could go on forever, but I’m probably boring you. Thanks for being such a great author and providing books that are both clean, with a good moral to boot, and fun to read. That’s so rare among teen fiction! I lend, and tell everyone about, your books! I can’t wait for My Double Life!

Aw, your daughter is gorgeous! ^_^

I read “My Fair Godmother” recently and it became my new favorite book (yay for fantasy / real life crossovers!). Just now I finished reading “Just One Wish,” and it was also very good. It ended just the way it should have…kind of happy and sad at the same time.

I love your humorous writing style, and the way you handle the plots and romance. And the research that must have gone into both books! Thumbs up!
