Project Book Babe

Photobucket
Where do I start about Project Book Babe? I would have blogged about this earlier, but for the last few days my computer joined my children’s labor union—meaning it only worked when it wanted to, which was about three minutes a day.
Photobucket
Project Book Babe actually started the night before when Stephenie Meyer, Shannon Hale, Laini Taylor and I went over to Jon Lewis’s house where his lovely wife fed us dinner and made us feel at home while we signed roughly a gajillion posters.
Photobucket
Laini shares an editor with me: the illustrious bow-tied one.
Here she is posing with My Fair Godmother. Maybe it’s just me, but I think there’s a striking likeness to Chrissy.
Photobucket
The next day we went early to Marcos De Niza High to practice our fab dance number where James Owen would be singing Baby Baby I Love You, by Aretha Franklin. Shannon had sent us backup dancer instructions earlier, which my six-year-old and I practiced faithfully.

Unfortunately the band was practicing on stage plus we found out that we had not in fact signed all of the posters and there was another bajillion waiting for us.
Photobucket
So we had to go on stage and do the song without ever practicing it. As you can see I came up with a gold sequined top to wear because I am just that cool.
Photobucket
Despite not having practiced together, the dance number went pretty well. Okay, there was a moment when Brandon Mull thought we were doing our free dance portion of the song, and we had to tell him that no, actually we weren’t to that part of the song yet, but that sort of thing adds to the ambiance of our free spirits.

Next we did the author panel. Since we were running behind we were told beforehand at our author pow wow
Photobucket
(and yes this is what our pow wow looked like from underneath) that we shouldn’t all answer every question and that in fact we should only speak if we had something smart or funny to say.
Photobucket
Luckily we are all very smart and witty people so it went well.(Here we are clearly being smart as opposed to witty.) And the audience laughed at all the right places which goes to show you that we have brilliant fans. (Okay, they were mostly Stephenie’s fans, but they were still brilliant!) They were also very generous when it came to the auction items and we raised lots of money for or dear friend, Faith, and breast cancer. Faith is the lovely lady in blue.
Photobucket
Here is P.J. Haarsma with Dean Lowery modeling one of the auction items, Stephenie’s Eclipse Prom dress.
Photobucket
Didn’t have a chance to come? You can still bid on some cool items at ebay under project book babe.
Next we did a story activity where we let the audience choose the title of a story—they chose Stephenie’s dress– and then we went down a line and gave a one sentence to add to the story. Yeah, it was bizarre but funny and just goes to show you why there aren’t a lot of books by ten authors.
Photobucket
Anyway, I have to say that all the authors there were wonderful and I was so glad to have a chance to hang out with them all. (And I haven’t gotten all my pictures off of my camera so I will add a few more to this.)

Janette- I had so much fun at this event. People looked at me like I was crazy for going from Alabama to Phoenix to meet authors! I loved telling them – these aren’t just any authors – these are the best! lol. It really was amazing what y’all did. I was one of the lucky ones who got to participate in the auction, was able to meet all of you at the Platinum reception and most of all meet Faith. It is obvious why you all love her – she seems so genuine and sweet! You were such a delight to meet! One of the women who traveled from Bama to Phoenix with me won the set of your books in the raffle – she is loving them! My friends who thought we were crazy to go to the event are now so jealous as they look at the pics on my blog! Oh, I totally understand the waiting for Edward to appear in one of your dreams! :o) me too. lol Thank you for providing such a wonderful reason to get away for a weekend and also to support such a deserving cause!

“Only talk if you had something smart or witty to say” … I would have been really, really quiet.
Looks like you guys had a blast!! Thanks for blogging about it for those of us too un-smart and un-witty to have been there. (hee, hee)!

What a fun event. I love all the pictures. I wanted to attend, but my husband was set on us going to Utah for General Conference. 🙂

Janette-We weren’t all Stephenie Meyer fans. Many of us are just really enthusiastic readers. I still remember when I finished the seventh HP book. I actually fell into a deep depression. What am I going to read now? I actually gave up on reading for awhile. And then there was Twilight. Unlike many others, I discovered it before it was the phenomenon it is now. But what Twilight did do was give me hope that there is more out there to read. That was when I began searching for others. I found you quite by accident. I was just surfing the net for books and saw that you were a local author. I picked up My Fair Godmother and LOVED it. So, I went to a signing and grabbed Just One Wish. I LOVED it even more. So, we weren’t all just SM fans at Project Book Babe. I am also a big Janette Rallison fan. The only reason I don’t have all of your other books is because my finances can’t always support my reading habit *grin*. But soon…I will have them all.

OH, I was nearly drooling just reading your post. That sounds like so much fun…too much fun. I wish I had gone. I was half tempted to jump in the mini van and head on down. I wish they would do something like that up here in Utah. I love the picture of the woman with the pink hair. too funny…and I love the shot from everyone looking down.

Thanks all! I’m going to be in Utah from April 22-26th and again in June for the writers conference at BYU. Really looking forward to it because Utah rocks! (And has way better weather than Arizona during those times.)

And Tina Lynn, I’m glad you like my books! Happy reading!

That is awesome. Hahaha. I have to admit, that I really want that awesome gold sequined top, and who knew that you had those awesome dance moves. Oh, and I’m glad to hear it went well. I wish I could have come, but I had to go to school. Who really needs an education? But I wanna come to Arizona sometime, I should have used the event as an excuse.

Hey I was not only a fan of Stephenie!
Your books rock too! I recently finished Just One Wish and I decided that one was my favorite of your books! I love the cute romances in them! Thanks for writing such fun books!

Janette, I’m so glad you were apart of project book babe, because now I am a HUGE Janette Rallison’s Fan. I wanted to study up on all the authors attending Project Book Babe, after reading My Fair Godmother, I devoured everyother book of yours my library carries. Needless to say I ran out of time and didn’t get around to reading the other authors books.
See you in UTAH. PS the gold blouse was the bomb!
